As we approach the mid-point of our 2010-2012 biennium for our Rocky Mountain District mission grants now is a good time to review our mission grant recipients and the ministries our mites are supporting. Review each mission grant description and pray the prayer provided or one of your own composition.
1. Trinity/HOPE $5000
This grant would help provide funds for one Lutheran School in Haiti to feed an
average of 100 students a daily noon meal so the children can learn more effectively
as well as be fed with the Word of God.
>PRAY: Lord, we pray that your light shines into the Lutheran School in Haiti that all of the children who are being fed there are receiving not only physical nourishment in the meals provided but that they are also being fed spiritually with the word of God. We pray also for those who faithfully serve at the Lutheran School in Haiti that you would encourage them daily and bless their efforts mightily.
2. RMD-Debt Assistance Program $7500
This grant would help fund the annual grants to LCMS pastors with educational debt
in the RMD. The goal of RMD is to provide money equal to ˝ of a struggling
pastor’s monthly educational debt payment which would help relieve his financial
stress and promote his remaining at his present call.
>PRAY: Father, we know the financial burden our young men take on to become pastors in the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod. We pray that you would continue to bless each new pastor that you send to the Rocky Mountain District and we pray that our support of the RMD Debt Assistance Program may encourage these men to remain in your service.
3. Kings’ Camp at Lutheran Valley Retreat $6000
This grant would help fund a week of camp for 60 youth from a Denver youth home
(that have been in and out of foster homes their entire life), for a two year period.
>PRAY: Lord you know the names of the youth that will be attending Kings Camp at Lutheran Valley Retreat and we ask that you make this camp a turning point in their lives to accept or renew their commitment to Jesus. By our support of this camp may they know that others love and care about them. Help them to remain faithful to you all their days.
4. Veterans of the Cross $5000
This grant would provide funds that would be used to assist in the care and support
of LCMS called workers and/or their spouses who are experiencing personal
financial difficulties in their retirement years.
>PRAY: Father, we thank you for the faithful called workers you have provided to our Rocky Mountain District over the years. You know that some of them may now be experiencing financial difficulties in their golden years. May our mites encourage these veterans of the cross as we help to ease their financial burden.
5. Developing Religious Life Curriculum for God’s People with Intellectual and
Developmental Disabilities $8000
This grant would provide funds for the printing of teacher materials so that the
message of salvation can be shared everywhere with people with intellectual and
developmental disabilities.
>PRAY: Lord, we thank you for the miracle of the written word that your message of salvation can be shared everywhere with people who have intellectual and developmental disabilities. May our mighty mites provide the teaching materials needed to reach these special people with the message of salvation. Bless those who serve these individuals, keep them steadfast in their work.
6. Opening an Outreach Center in Ft. Collins, CO-Lutheran Blind Mission $5000
This grant will provide funds to help create a mission station based at a congregation
to reach out to isolated blind people to demonstrate God’s love and to provide
training for the new center director.
>PRAY: Father, we pray your blessings upon the Lutheran Blind Mission in Fort Collins, CO that the Outreach Center will be a blessing to blind people who are often isolated. May they know God’s love through this center. Keep the new center director steadfast in their work and faithful to your word.
7. Support for the University Chapel in Boulder, CO $6000
This grant would provide funds to help support the campus ministry of the University
Lutheran Chapel at the University of Colorado.
>PRAY: Lord, we know that in going away to college many young Christians lose their way. We pray that the campus ministry that our mites are supporting at the University Chapel in Boulder, CO will shine and light and direct the steps of young college students to return to Jesus…or perhaps come to know him for the first time. Keep the campus ministry staff faithful in their commitment to this campus ministry outreach, that it might be pleasing in your sight.
8. Missionary Household Setup-LBT $7500
This grant will be used to help a missionary family set up their home when they arrive
on the mission field so they can begin providing the people with the Good News of
Jesus in their own language as soon as possible.
>PRAY: Father, we thank you for missionaries and their families. These are people who are willing to move to foreign lands to share the good news of Jesus with people who may have never heard it in their own language before. We pray that our mites will help these missionaries set up their household so that they may begin their work of translation and preaching as quickly as possible.
9. Expansion of the Ministry of the Lutheran Hispanic Missionary Institute, El
Paso, TX $7000
This grant would provide funds to support and expand the church worker training
program which prepares those already fluent in Spanish and familiar with Hispanic
culture and life for ministry (deacon) to their communities.
>PRAY: Lord, we ask your continued blessings upon Rev. Richard Schlak and the ministry of the Lutheran Hispanic Missionary Institute in El Paso, TX. Continue to provide willing students to attend the courses they are offering either in person in El Paso or virtually via the Internet. Give the students a willing heart to remain faithful to the end that they might then minister to their own communities in Spanish.
10. Training Pastors for Gospel Outreach in Africa $7000
This grant would provide funds to finance the necessary travel and communication with
African Lutheran churches to facilitate the training of pastors for Gospel outreach in Africa.
The Fluegges must raise 100% of the funds needed for the support of this ministry and their
personal needs in Africa.
>PRAY: Father, we ask your blessings upon the Fluegges and their efforts in training pastors for Gospel outreach in Africa. May our mites encourage them to remain faithful in their work and ease their financial worries.
11. Mission Outreach to Immigrants from Ethiopia $7500
This grant would provide funds for Vicar Tomas Bayou (He must raise his own
funds for this mission ministry) to help launch his Ethiopian Lutheran ministry in
the Aurora/Denver area with an outreach focus on the needs of young families.
>PRAY: Lord, we pray that our mites will be a blessing to Vicar Tomas Bayou as he establishes his Ethiopian Lutheran ministry in the Aurora/Denver, Colorado area. We pray that Vicar Bayou will be especially effective in focusing his outreach on the needs of young families.
12. Scholarship Assistance to Students Preparing for Ethnic Ministry $3500
This grant provides scholarship assistance to RMD students preparing for ethnic and
cross-cultural ministry at our synodical schools.
>PRAY: Father, we ask that the scholarship assistance our mites are providing to help RMD students prepare for ethnic and cross-cultural ministry at our synodical schools will be a blessing to the recipients. Keep them faithful in their course of study and true to your word in their preaching of the gospel.
AND FINALLY we pray for all of the mite-givers; LWML ladies from throughout the Rocky Mountain District who faithfully feed their mite boxes month after month. We pray that they will continue to fear the Lord and serve him faithfully with all of their hearts. Amen.
