“ SHOW ME THE WAY I SHOULD GO, FOR TO YOU I LIFT UP MY SOUL.” PSALMS 143:8
Every woman has a unique purpose on this earth, a unique role to fill, a unique set of tasks to accomplish – all designed by God in eternity. There is amazing freedom in knowing who you are, God’s child, and that God will and does use you for His purposes! The true reason you are on this earth may be different from what you thought your purpose would be. The role you always thought you might fulfill may not be at all what God has actually asked you to do. We tend to ponder and even ask God about what His will is for one’s life. God has already placed us where He will use us for certain roles, relationships, and opportunities in which His will is done. It means then, that right where you are, and as you are, God has wonderful purposes for you to fulfill. Real freedom comes when a woman simply submits to God’s headship over her. It‘s wonderful if our needs, as we define them, are met or if we feel fulfilled, yet, it’s vastly more wonderful to know that we belong to God through our faith in Jesus and that as such we are already in His hands, in the place He wants us, and are doing that which gives glory to Him and aids those to whom He has sent us.
In a small rural High School, cheerleaders where elected by a vote of the students. This girl had cheered for 2 years, so she just knew she would be re-elected. However that did not happen, it was difficult for her to make it through the day. She felt that her fellow students had rejected her and she would miss a year of fun with her friends. At lunch that day, the coach came to her and asked if she would like to be the team’s statistician. She quickly agreed. Her new position meant that she still rode on the bus with the cheerleaders and the team. Further, she received lots of attention since the players always wanted to know their stats.
That experience was a life lesson for this young woman. It taught her to look for something good in a difficult experience. Lessons like that remind us that when we have setbacks or challenges, God is helping us to take our eyes off of ourselves and to be patient for the next step of His plan to unfold. This gives us a sense of freedom, true freedom, because we know that we don’t have to figure out the big picture. Keep praying, keep believing, keep trusting and, in the end, God’s plan is being completed, even when we don’t know it. And amazingly, we have been able to be a part of it. What’s more, with God in charge, we will be able, by faith, see our life as God sees it. Then we go the way we should go – as God takes us.
The scriptures tell us about how God sees you and reassures you: Jer 29:11 - For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope. 1 Corinthians 3:21-23 - So let no one boast in men. For all things are yours, whether Paul or Apollos or Cephas or the world or life or death or the present or the future—all are yours, and you are Christ’s, and Christ is God’s. In Psalms 31:19 we are assured again: Oh, how abundant is your goodness, which you have stored up for those who fear you and worked for those who take refuge in you, in the sight of the children of mankind! Ps 139:16 – Your eyes saw my unformed substance; in your book were written, every one of them, the days that were formed for me, when as yet there was none of them.
Live every day to honor God and to serve those that God brings into our life. God has a reason for whatever season you are living through right now: a season of loss or blessing, a season of activity or hibernation, a season of growth or incubation. You may think that you’re on a detour, but God knows the best way for you to reach your destination. Live simply in the path God has given you with courage, grace and humor.
There are new positions for us in which to serve, new grants for us to embrace and support, new ideas and ways for us to serve in LWML. Willingly embrace them with grace and pray for their success. Then wait to see what happens, how God will accomplish His will and ways. Our heavenly Father is in charge.
LORD, OPEN MY HEART AND GIVE ME DIRECTION. PLEASE SEND THE HOLY SPIRIT TO GUIDE ME IN WHATEVER IS YOUR WILL. I KNOW YOU HAVE AGAPE LOVE, FOR YOU SEE ME AND STILL FORGIVE ME. I THANK YOU FOR GIVING ME PURPOSE AND FOR USING ME. ACCEPT AND BLESS MY EFFORTS. IN JESUS NAME I PRAY. AMEN.
